Damascus, SANA – The creative ” War Debris” sculpture is a unique artwork skillfully crafted by the International artist Mustafa Ali bearing witness to the unspeakable horrors and large-scale devastation that the terrorist war on Syria left behind.
Born from the rubble left by terrorist shelling which destroyed the Syrian houses, the sculpture combined everyday life stuff such as home objects, electrical appliances, different items made of iron as well as shell fragments to emphasize the fact that art can be made from destruction.
In a statement to SANA, artist Ali said that he has chosen the metal pressing technique to make his sculpture which stands about 9 meters high and made of 7 layers resembling 7 years of heinous war against his beloved country, noting that it sheds light on negative impact and catastrophic consequences of this war on all Syrians.
” It took me two months to complete this amazing work”, said Ali, adding that the idea of canning intended to express pain and sadness inside every man, meanwhile there are several outlets in an indication to the human’s inner strength, steadfastness and ability to overcome his pain.
The red, purple and blue colors were used to represent love, spring, land and sky and reveal the richness of the Syrian territory, people, civilization and culture.
Artist Talal Moualla said that war brings disasters but the creative artist has the ability to turn them into a memorial for upcoming generation to learn from.
Mustafa Ali is a well-known Syrian artist and sculptor. He was born in the coastal province of Lattakia in 1956. He graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts in Damascus, department of sculpture, in 1979. Then, he continued his studies at the Fine Arts Academy in Italy 1996. He held several solo exhibitions in Damascus, Beirut, Jordan, Dubai and France, not to mention his participation in the World Sculpture Forum in Berlin in 1987 and the 1st World Forum for sculptors in Lebanon in 1994.
Ali won several awards including the Bronze Award at the Sharjah Biennial in 1992 and the Gold Award in Lattakia Biennial in 1997.
