Syrian Insurance Supervisory Commission sets necessary steps to develop insurance sector

Damascus, SANA – A special work meeting was held on Saturday at the Syrian Insurance Supervisory Commission, headed by Prime Minister Imad Khamis.

The meeting served as the culmination of steps and measures taken by the government to set the main outlines for reforming the insurance sector, setting up the steps needed to start a real change in the mechanisms of work through studying the partial and comprehensive administrative restructuring of the sector’s components, especially the Syrian Insurance Company and Syrian Insurance Supervisory Commission.

The meeting concluded with setting up a comprehensive training plan for all the staff operating in the insurance sector in its various institutions on the academic, professional, and practical levels to improve performance.

The steps taken by the government to reform the insurance sector included restructuring the board of directors of Syrian Federation of Insurance Companies, revising the distribution of the compulsory insurance shares between the public sector establishments and private companies ,and increasing the insurance market revenues by SYP 10 billion, in addition to the amendment of the health insurance through coverage and premiums , reconsideration the work mechanism in general, and taking steps towards issuing a comprehensive and flexible insurance law that meets the market’s needs.
