Syria, UN Secretary General discuss US aggression on Syria

New York, SANA-Syria’s Permanent Representative to the UN Bashar al-Jaafari discussed with the United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres the US aggression on Syria and the position of the Syrian government on conducting a transparent and objective investigation in Khan Sheikhoun and al-Shairat Airport.

During a meeting on Tuesday, the two sides discussed enhancing cooperation with UN agencies in the field of humanitarian assistance, especially for those affected by the crisis inside Syria.

For his part, the Secretary-General expressed his clear condemnation of the bombing which took place in al-Rashideen area, western Aleppo, near the buses carrying locals from Kefraya and al-Fouaa towns , and expressed his understanding of the feelings of frustration felt by the Syrians about the lack of condemnation of this act by some and the lack of objectivity in this regard.

He added that the United Nations is careful on not letting the recent developments escalate the situation, asserting the need to work to limit the impact of those developments on the track of political talks.

Guterres stressed the UN’s keenness to make the political process a success through Geneva path.

In turn, al-Jaafari pointed out to the importance of cooperation with the Syrian government in the fight against terrorism and stressed that the political process should be led by Syria without any external interference.

He emphasized that the Syrian government is continuing to take all steps that help achieve more national reconciliations that have succeeded in many areas.
