Russian Defense Ministry: Russian, Syrian air forces did not strike Syrian Democratic Forces’ positions

Moscow, SANA- Russian Defense Ministry said that neither Russian nor Syrian air forces had directed any strike against the positions of the so-called Syrian Democratic Forces in Manbij city, north Syria.

” Commander of the American Air Forces expressed concern that Russian and Syrian aircraft could carry out an unintended strike at positions of Washington-backed fighters during an anti-terrorist operation,” the Russian Ministry added in a statement Wednesday.

To avoid any incidents, the US representative has provided exact coordinates of the positions of the so-called Syrian Democratic Forces, the statement said, adding that the information was “taken into account” by the Russian military.

Not a single air strike on the regions specified by the US side was conducted by Russian or Syrian air forces,” the statement went on to say.

The defense ministry also said it would continue “effective cooperation” with the US military through established channels in order to fight the ISIS terrorist group in Syria.

Earlier, Commander of the so-called international alliance against ISISI in Iraq and Syria Stephen Townsend announced that Russian and Syrian jets bombed US-backed fighters in Syria. The incident was due to wrong information designating the targeted areas held by the Syrian Democratic Forces near Manbij city, north Syria.
