Russia will veto Western-backed United Nation resolution on imposing sanctions on Syria

New York, SANA_ Russia pledged to veto a Western-backed United Nations resolution Tuesday that would impose sanctions on Syria under the pretext of using chemical weapons.

Russia’s permanent mission to the UN said that Russia will not support any western-backed draft resolution submitted to the Security Council against Syria .

A western diplomatic source said that the UN Security Council will vote Tuesday on the draft resolution immediately following the conclusion of its meeting on the assessment of the outcomes of its work during February.

Russia’s Deputy UN Ambassador, Vladimir Safronkov, said Friday that Moscow would veto the resolution, which he described as “one-sided,” “based on insufficient evidence” and “a provocation.”

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov described the draft resolution as ” unacceptable”.
