Daraa, Feb. 15 (SANA) The Criminal Investigations Division in Daraa dismantled an organized criminal group that specialized in stealing vehicles by impersonating official authorities, according to the Syrian Ministry of Interior.
The ministry stated on Sunday that the operation followed careful monitoring and precise follow-up after a citizen reported being lured from Rural Damascus to the town of Sheikh Miskin in the Daraa countryside under the pretext of transporting passengers. Upon arrival, the victim was stopped at a fake checkpoint set up by members of the criminal group posing as official personnel, who seized his vehicle.
Acting on the report, security forces carried out a targeted operation that resulted in the arrest of the group’s leader and all seven members, including one woman, and the recovery of three stolen vehicles taken from different provinces.
