Washington, June 7 (SANA) U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced Sunday that American forces operating in the Middle East had shot down two Iranian drones that it said were threatening international maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz.
In a statement posted on the social media platform X earlier Sunday, CENTCOM said: “Earlier today, U.S. forces in the Middle East shot down two Iranian one-way attack drones that threatened international maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz.”
The command added that U.S. forces “remain postured and ready to continue defending against Iranian aggression.”
The announcement came a day after the U.S. military said it had struck radar sites inside Iran in an act of self-defense following the interception of four Iranian drones that were threatening civilian maritime traffic in the region.
Hostilities between Washington and Tehran formally ceased on April 8 under a ceasefire brokered by Pakistan. However, the two sides have exchanged fire on several occasions since then.
The latest incident comes amid continuing tensions in the Gulf region, with Iran maintaining restrictions on navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, while the United States continues measures targeting Iranian ports on the Arabian Gulf and the Sea of Oman.
