Damascus, Feb. 1 (SANA) More than 4.5 million students returned to schools across Syria on Sunday with the start of the second semester of the 2025–2026 academic year, the Ministry of Education said.

Students at various education levels are enrolled in about 12,000 schools nationwide, according to the ministry.

The ministry had extended the midyear break by one week to prepare schools and educational facilities in the Syrian Jazira region, where the Syrian government regained control under an agreement with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

A number of schools in the Jazira region have since been prepared to resume classes, allowing the second semester to begin in line with schools across the rest of the country.
