Syrian-Turkish talks on roadmap for strategic economic and trade partnership

Ankara, SANA-Syrian economic delegation, headed by the Minister of Economy and Industry Mohammad Nidal Al-Shaar discussed Tuesday with Turkish Minister of Trade Ömer Bolat in Ankara, ways and mechanisms to develop a roadmap for strategic economic and trade cooperation that will have positive results on economy of both countries.

The two sides discussed during the meeting attended by top officials and experts from both sides, ways to strengthen joint cooperation in various fields, particularly the economic sector, developing trade relations, enhancing cooperation in the field of customs, and increasing investments as well as prospects for cooperation in the reconstruction process.

Turkish Minister of Trade considered the visit of the Syrian delegation as a historic one, noting that ten agreements were negotiated, two of which will be signed today, followed by more in the future.

Minister Bolat stressed that “This visit expresses our shared will to overcome the difficulties and hardships which our Syrian brothers addressed as a result of the war, and our determination to build a new Syria together.”

Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement

The Turkish Minister noted significant progress was achieved to establish a new comprehensive economic partnership agreement aimed at integrating the Turkish and Syrian economies, serving as an example for our region, and setting a roadmap for economic and trade relations between the two countries.

Minister Bolat said that the trade volume had reached $2.6 billion in 2024, while it reached $1.9 billion during the first seven months of this year.

The meeting witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Syrian Ministry of Economy and Industry and the Turkish Ministry of Trade, aiming to enhance cooperation in the fields of administrative development, exchange of expertise, and the development of joint public policies.
