Damascus, Jan. 19 (SANA) The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has welcomed the ceasefire agreement and the full integration of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) into Syrian state institutions.
In a statement released Monday on X, the UN agency affirmed it will continue working with partners to meet urgent humanitarian needs across the country.
The agreement, signed Sunday by President Ahmad al-Sharaa, marks a major political and security development. It provides for a nationwide ceasefire and the incorporation of SDF units into the structures of the Syrian state.
The move has drawn wide regional and international support. Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Jordan, Kuwait, Turkey, and the Muslim World League all issued statements welcoming the agreement.
US Special Envoy to Syria Thomas Barrack also voiced Washington’s backing, describing the accord as a pivotal turning point that could pave the way for renewed dialogue and cooperation toward a unified Syria.
