Cairo, AUG 31 (SANA) Arab League Secretary-General Nabil Fahmy on Monday voiced deep concern over Israeli plans to expand Jewish communities in the Naqap and Galilee and increase the Jewish population in the two regions, warning that related measures could affect Arab towns, planning authorities and land use.
In a statement published Monday on the Arab League’s X account, Fahmy said the plans involved discrimination based on identity and national affiliation, which he said reflected growing racist tendencies in Israeli society and entrenched discrimination and exclusion at the expense of equality and the rights of Arab citizens.
Fahmy said the developments were part of broader Israeli policies aimed at creating new realities on the ground, including settlement expansion and measures that undermine the foundations of a future Palestinian state.
He said such policies run counter to international law and threaten prospects for a just and lasting political settlement.
Fahmy called on the international community to confront the policies and preserve the prospects for establishing an independent Palestinian state along the June 4, 1967 lines, with East Jerusalem as its capital. He described a two-state solution as the path toward security, stability and lasting peace in the region.
The warning followed statements by Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich about plans for the Naqap and Galilee. According to the Arab League and Palestinian media, the plans include establishing dozens of new Israeli communities and farms, expanding existing settlements and canceling development plans for Arab towns.
