Abuja, July 27 (SANA) At least 30 people, including women and children, were killed when gunmen attacked a village in Kaduna State in northern Nigeria, according to local authorities.
“The attackers stormed Naridon village around midnight, opened fire indiscriminately, burned homes and shops and killed 30 people, including women and children,” local official Yunusa Babados told AFP. The attackers killed six children from a single family in one of the houses, he added.
Amnesty International strongly condemned the killing of at least 30 people in the attack on the village in Kaduna State.
The attack comes amid escalating violence across large areas of northern, central and western Nigeria, where armed groups are active in kidnapping for ransom, cattle rustling and extortion of residents, particularly farmers, amid deteriorating security conditions in the country.
Last week, more than 20 people were killed in an attack by gunmen on several villages in Zamfara State, northwest Nigeria, according to local officials. Nigeria’s security forces have struggled to contain the violence, which has forced thousands to flee their homes.
