Tokyo, May 16 (SANA) Ahmed Bin Mohammad Al-Jarwan, President of the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace, warned on Saturday that threats to international waterways pose serious risks to global markets and supply chains, calling the protection of maritime navigation a shared international responsibility.
Speaking during a session on the Middle East at an international conference in Tokyo, Al-Jarwan said the region is facing a critical period marked by mounting political crises and security tensions, according to the Emirati news agency WAM.
He said Iranian attacks targeting Gulf countries violate the principles of sovereignty and good neighborliness, urging the international community to adopt a unified position based on deterrence and respect for international law in order to reinforce regional stability.
Al-Jarwan also highlighted the strategic importance of the Strait of Hormuz, describing it as a key route for global energy supplies and international trade. Any disruption to maritime navigation in the region, he said, would have immediate consequences for the global economy.
Addressing regional political issues, Al-Jarwan stressed the need to strengthen bilateral relations and international dialogue to help contain crises and support peace and stability. He added that the continued absence of a just solution to the Palestinian cause remains a major source of tension in the region, reaffirming the Palestinian people’s right to live in dignity under international law.
He also expressed hope for greater stability in Lebanon through stronger governmental and diplomatic efforts and by shielding the country from external conflicts. Sustainable peace, he said, depends on respect for state sovereignty, trust-building, and promoting a culture of tolerance and mutual understanding.
The Tokyo conference, held from May 14 to 16, focused on rapid developments in artificial intelligence and the risks associated with its unregulated use. Participants called for international frameworks to ensure the safe and responsible development of AI technologies.
The event brought together international officials and experts to discuss challenges facing the global system amid ongoing geopolitical tensions and international crises.
