Washington, May 4 (SANA) U.S. President Donald Trump said on Sunday that the United States will begin assisting ships stranded in the Strait of Hormuz starting Monday, after requests from multiple countries.
In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump said the U.S. would guide vessels safely through what he described as restricted waterways to allow them to resume operations.
He said U.S. officials are holding “very positive” talks with Iran that could lead to outcomes beneficial to all sides, but warned that any interference in what he called a “humanitarian” operation would be addressed firmly.
Trump added that the vessels involved are not linked to the ongoing tensions in the Middle East and said Washington would work to ensure their safe passage.
Earlier on Sunday, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said it had directed 49 commercial ships to reroute or turn back since the start of what it described as a naval blockade.
The U.S. military announced a blockade of the Strait of Hormuz in April following the failure of initial talks between Washington and Tehran.
