Washington, March 25 (SANA) The U.S. Senate voted 53-47 late Tuesday to block a resolution aimed at limiting President Donald Trump’s authority to use military force against Iran without approval from Congress.
The measure, introduced by Democratic Senator Tim Kaine and Republican Senator Rand Paul, would have required the administration to halt military operations against Iran unless explicitly authorized by lawmakers.
A majority of senators backed the ongoing military campaign ordered by Trump, effectively preventing the resolution from advancing.
The vote reflects continued divisions in Congress over the scope of presidential war powers and U.S. involvement in the escalating tensions with Iran.
Trump said Monday that “constructive talks” had taken place with Iran, adding that he had postponed planned strikes on Iranian energy facilities for five days.
He had previously warned of possible military action if Tehran did not reopen the Strait of Hormuz, a key global shipping route.
