Damascus, June 1 (SANA) Syrian airspace recorded 11,801 overflights during May 2026, 378% increase compared to 2,468 flights in May 2025, the head of Syria’s General Authority of Civil Aviation and Air Transport (GACA) said Monday.
Omar Hosari said in a post on X that the figures reflect restored confidence in Syrian airspace and the success of national efforts to develop air navigation services and enhance safety and operational efficiency in line with international standards.
Hosari thanked authority staff, the air navigation director and air traffic controllers for working around the clock to restore Syria’s position as a strategic air corridor on the global aviation map.
He added that work is underway to sustain this growth, with the aim of achieving even larger numbers and doubling transit traffic in the coming months through continued service improvements and building airline confidence in Syrian airspace.
Syrian airspace is one of the Middle East’s key aviation corridors due to the country’s geographic location linking Asia, Europe and the Gulf states. Overflight traffic serves as an important indicator of civil aviation activity and confidence in air navigation services, while boosting revenues from navigation and transit fees.
