Doha, Feb. 8 (SANA) Qatar on Saturday strongly condemned the targeting of a World Food Programme (WFP) relief convoy in Sudan’s North Kordofan state, describing the attack as a grave violation of international humanitarian law.
In a statement, the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs stressed the urgent need to protect humanitarian workers and ensure the sustained delivery of aid to civilians in need.
The ministry renewed Qatar’s call for coordinated regional and international efforts to end the war through peaceful means, reaffirming its full support for Sudan’s unity, sovereignty and stability. It said Qatar stands by the Sudanese people in their aspirations for peace, development and prosperity.
Dozens of Sudanese civilians were killed or wounded on Friday in drone attacks launched by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on aid convoys and vehicles carrying displaced people, according to reports, as the country continues to face a severe humanitarian crisis, and famine has been confirmed in the city of El Fasher.
The United Nations also condemned the attack on the WFP convoy. In a statement, U.N. Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Sudan Denise Brown said the trucks were traveling from Kosti in White Nile state to deliver life-saving food assistance to displaced families near El Obeid, the capital of North Kordofan, when they were struck.
