Damascus, May.21 (SANA) أHead of the National Commission for Transitional Justice, Abdul Basit Abdul Latif, held talks on Thursday with the Deputy Special Envoy of the UN Secretary-General for Syria, Claudio Cordone, on the progress of the Commission’s work and ways to support the transitional justice process in Syria.

During the meeting, held at the Commission’s headquarters in Damascus, Abdul Latif provided a comprehensive briefing on the key programs and activities currently being implemented, including truth-seeking mechanisms, accountability measures, reparations frameworks, and institutional reform efforts, in addition to expanded field outreach and enhanced engagement with victims and their families.

For his part, Cordone underscored the importance of the Commission’s role in promoting stability and strengthening social trust. He also stressed the need to counter hate speech and reinforce civil peace, alongside supporting the organization of strategic workshops aimed at further developing Syria’s transitional justice process.

The meeting comes as part of the Commission’s continued coordination and cooperation with international and UN bodies supporting transitional justice and sustainable peacebuilding efforts.

Earlier on Wednesday, Justice Minister Mazhar al-Wais discussed with Cordone avenues for enhancing joint cooperation in legal and judicial fields.
