Syria, WHO move to boost training and disease surveillance programs

Damascus, Feb. 1 (SANA) Syrian Minister of Health Musab al-Ali on Sunday discussed ways to strengthen health cooperation and technical support with a World Health Organization delegation headed by Acting Representative Asmus Hammerich.

The meeting at the ministry headquarters focused on preparing technical training plans and programs for Syrian medical staff through workshops based on the latest international standards, with the aim of enhancing sector performance and improving the quality of services provided to citizens.

Al-Ali said the talks marked the start of a new phase of cooperation, noting that the ministry seeks to make the WHO a key partner in developing its work. He added that collaboration with international organizations would be tied to reorganizing human resources within the ministry to ensure optimal use of available capacities.

For its part, the WHO delegation reaffirmed the organization’s readiness to provide technical assistance and international expertise to reinforce Syria’s health system, particularly in polio surveillance, strengthening routine immunization programs, introducing new vaccines, and developing human resources.
