Moscow, SANA – Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that the United States is using all possible methods to avoid striking Jabhat al-Nusra terrorist organization in Syria, and by doing so it is creating a new monster that will carry out terror attacks across the world.
In a speech at the Dialogue for the Future Research and Education Program held in Moscow on Wednesday, Lavrov said that the American position during the talks with Russia on Syria can only by construed as Washigton wanting to protect al-Nusra, and that while contact with Washington is still maintained, whenever something is agreed upon the Americans change direction and distance themselves from the agreements.
He said that after they created Al Qaeda and ISIS, the Americans are now creating another monster which is Jabhat al-Nusra, which will carry out terror attacks across the world, noting that Washington keeps putting forth truces – which are always used to bolster militants – as a main condition in talks on humanitarian corridors, adding that despite that eastern Aleppo was cleared of militants.
The Minister said that the calls for ceasing combat activities and starting truces only seek to give militants a break so that they can acquire new weapons and munitions, which is exactly what happened in Palmyra recently after the abrupt stop of the operation to liberate Mosul which was hyped extensively, as Mosul was cordoned in an incomplete manner, allowing ISIS to exit with their weapons and in good health and to head to Palmyra.
Lavrov asserted that Moscow holds dialogue with all armed groups except ISIS and al-Nusra, hoping that the situation in the eastern neighborhoods of Aleppo will be resolved in two or three days.
He affirmed that the claims by America’s representatives in international organizations about Russia forcing civilians to leave Aleppo are lies, as no-one is forced to leave and only those who want to have left the city, adding that allegations of committing atrocities during the liberation of Aleppo are all false and there’s no evidence that proves them to be true.
On a relevant note, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said that Moscow hasn’t ruled out the possibility of holding meetings between Lavrov and US State Secretary John Kerry to discuss the situation in Syria before the end of the year.
Ryabkov said that such meeting aren’t unlikely but this is related to how the situation develops, asserting that Moscow will maintain dialogue with Washington about the situation in Aleppo regardless of the agreements on this matter with Ankara.
Lavrov, Kerry discuss situation in Aleppo
In a relevant context, Lavrov discussed with his US counterpart John Kerry the situation in Aleppo eastern neighborhoods.
Novosti quoted the Russian Foreign Ministry as saying in a statement that the two ministers focused, in a telephone call, on the crisis in Syria, particularly settling the situation in Aleppo eastern neighborhoods.
According to the statement, Lavrov called on the US to use its influence on “armed opposition groups” it supports, affirming that the Syrian government has showed its readiness, since long time, to secure the exit of gunmen in the eastern regions of Aleppo freely.
“The gunmen are still rejecting any cease-fire because they are influenced by leaders of Jabhat al-Nusra terrorist organization,” Lavrov added.
