Updated-Peskov: Washington’s refusal to cooperate with Moscow led to increase in ISIS attacks in Syria

Moscow, SANA – Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the United States’ refusal to cooperate with Russia in fighting terrorism has resulted in ISIS increasing its attacks in Syria.

Peskov told journalists on Monday that actual cooperation and military coordination with other states including the US could have led to avoiding attacks like the one that targeted Palmyra, but sadly Washington refuses to cooperate with Moscow in this regard.

He asserted that an end will be put to ISIS attacks on Palmyra very soon, adding that ISIS’ attack on Palmyra shows the threat posed by this terror organization, calling on the international community to exert more efforts to liberate Palmyra from terrorists.

Peskov also noted that there’s a process taking place in which large groups of terrorists are being expelled from Iraq which allows them to form large terrorist groups in Syria and carry out attacks there.

ISIS terrorists had entered Palmyra on Sunday following violent clashes with the Syrian Army and Armed Forces, in which ISIS attacked in large numbers exceeding 4,000 from various directions.

Lavrov: US stance towards combating terrorism depends on double standard policy

Meanwhile, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said  that the US stance towards combating terrorism depends on double standard policy, affirming that Jabhat al-Nusra terrorist organization which changed its name into “Fatah al-Cham” has never been exposed to the strikes of US-led coalition.

“The latest events in Palmyra and ISIS movements there lead to a conclusion that these developments were pre-planned in order to give the terrorists in Aleppo, who take civilians as human shields, a new opportunity,” Lavrov said in a press conference in Serbia.
