Damascus Countryside, SANA – Social Affairs and Labor Minister Rima al-Qadiri, accompanied by Damascus Countryside Governor Ala’a Ibrahim, visited the “My Career is My Life” project being carried out by the UN Development Program (UNDP) in cooperation with St. Jacob Church and Mor Aphrem Syriac Patriarchal Development Agency in the town of Jaramana in Damascus Countryside.
In a statement to journalist, al-Qadiri said the Ministry supports activities and projects that achieve “empowering relief” and that the “My Career is My Life” project is a successful example of this as it empowers participating women to acquire skills and creates job opportunities that allow them to be productive.
For his part, executive director of the Mor Aphrem Agency Shadi Sroura said that the project involves productive workshops which allow women who are providing for their families to earn a living by making quilts, blankets, and other wool products.
Sroura noted that the project was launched in May 2015 via an agreement between the Agency and the UNDP that expired at the start of 2016, but in order to sustain and maintain the project, it continued with self-funding for eight months, noting that the projects provides jobs for more than 65 women.
Minister Qadiri and Governor Ibrahim also visited a makeshift housing center in the sports complex in Jaramana, and inspected the conditions of families living in it.
