The Golden Feather of Russia contest awards Syria’s writer and translator Thaer Zein Eddin

Moscow, SANA – The Syrian writer and translator Thaer Zein Eddin received two literary awards for 2016 from the International Literary Competition (The Golden Feather of Russia).

The jury of the contest conferred an honorary diploma on Zein Eddin, in addition to giving him the Russian Leo Tolstoy International Gold Medal in appreciation of his high-level translation of the Russian classics into the Arabic language.

Zein Eddin was also awarded an honorary Shakespeare diploma with a gold medal.

The Syrian Embassy in Moscow received the two awards at a special ceremony held for the purpose.

Ambassador Riyad Haddad said besides the literary value of the two awards, they also reflect the deeply rooted ties binding Syria and Russia that go well beyond the two countries’ cooperation in the face of the current challenges.

Some 20, 000 nominees from 72 countries took part in this year’s edition of the competition.
