Moscow, SANA – Presidential Political and Media Adviser Bouthaina Shaaban stressed that the Western media intentionally distorts current events in Syria and accuses Russia and Syria of committing crimes perpetrated by the US-led coalition, especially the bombing of schools, hospitals and infrastructure facilities in Syria.
Shaaban made her remarks during an international scientific conference organized by the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences under the title “The National Reconciliation and the Future of Syria”.
She highlighted Russia and Syria’s full cooperation with the UN, adding that the US-led Coalition destroyed more than 300 schools and hospitals in Syria amid silence of Western media outlets, al-Jazeera and al-Arabiya TV channels.
Over the past few months, the Washington-led coalition aircrafts destroyed two electricity plants in al-Radwaniyeh area and water pumping stations in al-Khafseh area, east of Aleppo, claiming hundreds of civilian lives, not to mention the bloody massacre which killed more than 120 civilians and injured tens of others in airstrikes on the village of Toukhan al-Kubra last July.
Shaaban asserted that Western media outlets cover the events in Syria in a selective manner, distorting the content of what is broadcast, noting that these outlets receive their reports on Syria from foreign intelligence agencies.
She stressed that most of the international community is unaware of the efforts exerted by the Syrian government to end the crisis in Syria, while the West works to escalate the situation by supporting terrorists, elaborating by pointing out to the Syrian leadership’s plans for national reconciliation and providing amnesty to militants who abandon their weapons.
Regarding the UN work in Syria, Shaaban said the UN relation with Syria doesn’t inspire optimism as the UN has hindered counter-terrorism and reconciliation, citing the example of the negative position taken by UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura regarding the reconciliation in Daraya.
She said that the West is shedding crocodile tears over the eastern part of Aleppo and the situation there, but they never mention the main reasons for that as major states like the US, Britain, and France support what they call “moderate opposition” when in fact these groups are no different than the terrorists from ISIS or al-Nusra.
“Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Turkey are still the main supporters of terrorists in Syria,” she added, noting that the battles started by Turkey in northern Syria are part of Erdogan’s dreams of restoring the Ottoman Sultanate, asserting that all the slogans repeated by these three states about finding a solution for the crisis in Syria are empty lies, and that the crisis can only be resolved via political settlement, something which the Syrian government is sparing no effort to realize.
