Russian Foreign Ministry: Lavrov discusses with Kerry upcoming steps to resolve crisis in Syria

Hangzhou, China, SANA- The Russian Foreign Ministry announced that the Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov discussed on Sunday with his American counterpart on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Hangzhou city in China the next steps to resolve the crisis in Syria.

Sputnik Russian News Agency quoted the ministry as saying in a statement that Lavrov held a separate meeting with Kerry during which they discussed the next steps to contribute to resolving the crisis in Syria, including enhancing the cessation of hostilities agreement and the US Russian cooperation in combating terrorist organizations.

Earlier on Sunday, Russian Deputy Foreign minister Sergei Ryabkov said that Russia and the United States are close to reaching an agreement on Syria, affirming that the meeting between Lavrov and his US counterpart Kerry contributed to achieving progress in regard to the completion of this agreement.

For his part, after meeting Lavrov, Kerry said that some technical points were resolved during a US Russian agreement about Syria, yet there are two sticking points, adding that he will meet Lavrov again on Monday to fill the gap in the remaining two points.
