Moscow, SANA– Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov affirmed on Friday that Russia is able to strengthen its forces in Syria shortly if necessary.
“When the decision was made to cut the number of personnel of our aviation contingent in Syria, you remember the statement of both the president of Russia and the military, who said that the temporary infrastructure in Syria remained and therefore the contingent could be increased very quickly, if necessary. This will be done in accordance with the relevant tasks”, Peskov said.
The Russian official pointed out that the consultations on Syria between Russia, the US and the UN due to be held in Geneva next week are the result of a recent meeting of Russian President Vladimir Putin and US Secretary of State John Kerry, adding that the two sides discussed the need to intensify efforts, the need to accelerate the pace of peace-making efforts.
On March 14th, Syria and Russia agreed to decrease the number of the Russian air forces in Syria to cope with the current field stage and the continuation of the cessation of hostilities with the Russian side confirmation on the continuation of Moscow’s support for Syria in the fight against terrorism.
