Silver and bronze medals for Syria’s team in Almaty International Athletics Championships in Khazakhistan

Astana, SANA- Syrian athlete Ghufran Mohammad won a silver medal after ranking second in the 400m hurdle race in the International Athletics Championships held in Almaty in Kazakhstan with the participation of nine countries.

Mohammad registered a new Syrian record in the race after running the distance in 56.89 seconds, adding a new medal to her record after winning gold in the first round, running the distance in 58.24 seconds.

Meanwhile, Syria’s Rahaf Salameh won the bronze medal in the high jump competitions with a jump registering 170 centimeters, breaking her former record of 165 cm.

Mohammad’s participation in the tournament is part of the preparations for the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics due to be held next August, in which she will participate along with Majd al-Din Ghazal, Azad al-Barazi, Baiyan Joumaa, Maan Asaad , Mohammad Qasem and Heba al-Lajji.
