Cabinet discusses SYP exchange rate and state of water resources

Damascus, SANA- The Cabinet held its weekly session on Tuesday, discussing the adopted measures to improve the exchange rate of the Syrian Pound and the plans for rationalization of water resources.

Chairing the session, Prime Minister Wael al-Halaqi said the new intervention operations are taken by the Central Bank of Syria (CBS) contributed to improving the price of the SYP against the USD, affirming that the stability of the Syrian Pound exchange rate is one of the top priorities of the government, and its recovery should reflect positively on prices in the market.

He also directed the Internal Trade and Consumer Protection Ministry to continue to improve its measures to stabilize the prices in markets, adding that the intervention process will continue till the exchange rate reaches acceptable levels.

The Premier talked about his recent visit to Sweida province, which involved inaugurating a number of services and development projects and laying the foundation stones of others, noting that the province has witnessed considerable activity in the field of construction in parallel with establishing of new projects which will create new job opportunities, adding that this experience will be applied in the other provinces.

He stated that the establishment of new investment projects recently in Damascus Countryside, Homs, Lattakia, Tartous, and Sweida reflects the strength of the state, despite the systematic destruction of the Syrian economy, the unjust economic blockade imposed on the country, and attempts to weaken the Syrian Pound.
On another note, al-Halaqi stressed that climate change in the region has adversely affected the water situation in Syria, which requires the government and the society to set up short-term and long-term strategic plans for rationalizing water consumption and utilizing the current water resources in optimal ways, as well as looking for new water sources.

In turn, Health Minister Nizar Yazigi reviewed the results of his participation in the 69th session of the World Health Assembly (WHA) in Geneva.
