SYP 100 billion allocated for marketing this season’s cereal production

Damascus, SANA – A sum of SYP 100 billion was announced Saturday to be allocated for marketing this season’s cereal production, during a special meeting of the central committee for cereals marketing with Prime Minister Wael al-Halaqi.

The announcement is aimed at encouraging peasants to market their crops and accelerating the process of paying them in return.

Al-Halaqi said the government aims to market the largest possible quantities of wheat and barley for this season, based on directions provided by President Bashar al-Assad to boost the steadfastness of the Syrian people.

He placed focus on the need to secure all requirements of agricultural production and facilitate procedures of collecting and receiving crops to reduce burdens on peasants and farmers.

The Governor of the Central Bank of Syria and a number of ministers, deputy ministers and establishments’ heads attended the meeting, along with the governors of Hasaka, Aleppo and Hama.

In a statement to reporters following the meeting, Director General of the Establishment for Cereal Processing and Trade Majed Hmeidan said the meeting came out with “important recommendations and decisions” that meet the peasants’ needs, adding that those are mostly related to prices and facilitations of the marketing process.
