Investment and trade exchange between Syria and Russia discussed

Damascus, SANA- Deputy Director General of the Syrian Investment Agency (SIA) Dr.Inas al-Omawi discussed with the Commercial Attaché at the Russian Embassy in Damascus Igor Matveyev prospects of investment and trade exchange and ways of cooperation to implement short- and medium-term joint investment in Syria.

During a meeting at the Agency’s headquarter on Monday, Dr. Omawi explained the proposed fields for investment which include projects of conventional and renewable energy, the infrastructure, reconstructions and industrial projects, reviewing the prospects of investment cooperation between the two friendly countries and the tasks of the agency in addition to the investment map in Syria.

Al-Omawi revealed that the agency is preparing to hold a conference for reconstruction as part of seeking to search for new partners from friendly countries and the BRICS group.

In turn, Matveyev highlighted the current situation of investment cooperation between the two countries and the real problems that hinder the development of cooperation and investment.

Matveyev said that there is distinguished investment cooperation between the two countries in the field of trade including import and export.

Matveyev noted that Russia encourages trade exchange and investments with Syria, particularly the importation of Syrian goods and products and pumping them into the Russian markets, expressing optimism about the future of cooperation between the public and private sectors in the two countries.

Matveyev said that Russia is greatly interested in long-term investments projects in the future, noting the cooperation with the Ministry of Communications and Technology and the Ministry of Industry in addition to the joint projects in maritime transport and banking cooperation.

Matveyev also expressed readiness for exporting factories for rapid construction and building works to Syria as part of the efforts to develop the infrastructure, buildings, roads and others.

For his part, Chairman of the Syrian-Russian Businessmen Council Samir Hassan pointed out that Syrian exports to the Russian markets have increased in the past three months with facilitations provided by the Russian government.

During the meeting, proposals and problems of a number of businessmen were reviewed in addition to the mechanisms to facilitate the implementation of investment projects.
