Ryabkov: Intra-Syrian dialogue should be continuous and solid

Moscow, SANA – Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov called for ensuring that the indirect dialogue between the Syrian government and the different factions of the opposition is continuous and solid.

In an interview with Russian newspaper Izvestia on Monday, Ryabkov said it’s a good thing that UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura declared right after the last round of talks that talks will continue in the upcoming month coming up with new ideas and formulas.

Ryabkov stressed the importance of having a proportionate participation by Syrian Kurds in the Geneva dialogue, and the need for the so-called “al-Riyadh group” to take a more realistic position and give up attempts of imposing preconditions for the continuation of talks.

He added that a great deal of that depends on the way the USA and the EU work with Turkey to make its approach regarding the crisis in Syria and the dialogue in Geneva more realistic, noting that Moscow and Washington are still working on an agreement for monitoring the cessation of hostilities in Syria.

Ryabkov also called on the United States to seek diplomatic solutions for resolving disputes instead of making accusations.
