Update-Russia seeks to curtail terrorist danger threatening Russian security and Syria

Moscow, SANA – Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that what  Russia seeks in Syria is curtailing the terrorist danger that is threatening Russia’s  national security and the Syrian state and launching a political settlement through  dialogue between the Syrian government and opposition with the support of the foreign
sides that influence the situation in a way or another.

Sputnik News quoted Zakharova in an interview with Komsomolskaya Pravda daily on Tuesday as saying that the arms supplied by the United States to the so-called “moderate opposition” might fall into the hands of notorious terrorists.

“There is a billion light-years between the concept that is written in the law enforcement agencies of the United States and what it turns out ‘on the ground’ in the Middle East. When the supply of arms to these ‘good guys’ begins, no one can guarantee that tomorrow it will not be resold to thugs-cannibals.” she said.

There is even confidence in the probability of such a scenario, since a similar scheme has already been implemented in a number of states, Zakharova added.

“With the Western money, a militant group is created, supplied with weapons, then it carries out the things its sponsors conceived. However, the next day, when the regime in the country is changed, it has absolutely no intention to return this weapon back to anyone,” she added.

“If the next operation on the violent change of power in the Middle Eastern country is carried out, it will be disastrous not only for Syria, but will also become the most dangerous element in the destructive chain of events occurring in the region. The region may simply not endure one more black hole,” Zakharova continued to say.

According to Zakharova, the region might not just turn into a set of “lurid” states, but “explode” simultaneously as a whole.

“And what happens next? That’s exactly what the Islamic State needs. Another area of chaos suits it over the odds. Therefore, we say that the most important task is to save the Syrian power structure,” Zakharova stressed.
