12 civilians killed, scores injured in terrorist attacks on Damascus, Aleppo

Damascus, SANA – Terrorists targeted Damascus city on Wednesday with mortars and rockets that landed in various neighborhoods, leaving civilian casualties.

The shells, which were fired by terrorists positioned in the Eastern al-Ghouta, left 7 civilians dead and 55 others injured, a source at Damascus Police Command confirmed to SANA.

The source noted that most of the victims are women and children.

Four civilians killed in terrorist attacks in Aleppo

Meanwhile, four civilians were killed in a terrorist attack with rocket shells that hit al-Azizeya and Grorge Lahdou roundabout in Aleppo.

A police source told SANA that terrorists fired rocket shells on al-Azizeya and Grorge Lahdou roundabout, killing two women and two men, and injuring three persons.

The terrorist attack caused material damages to the private properties too.

Assistant director of DGAM labs killed in terrorist rocket attack on Damascus

Assistant Director of the laboratories at the Directorate-General of Antiquities and Museums (DGAM) Qasem Abdullah Yehiya was killed by one of terrorist rocket attacks which targeted Damascus Citadel and Damascus National Museum.

Director General of the DGAM Maamoun Abdul-Karim said in a statement to SANA that six rocket shells fell on Damascus Citadel and Damascus National Museum, killing Yehiya while he was inspecting the laboratories at the Department of Antiquities in Damascus Citadel, in addition to injuring a number of employees.

Abdul-Karim added that the terrorist attack caused material damages to the buildings of the museum and the castle which are included in the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites since 1979.

Abdul-karim noted that 13 workers at the DGAM were killed by terrorist attacks on archaeological sites in various provinces.

The late Yehiya held a master’s degree in chemistry applications in archeology from Italy. He was responsible for saving a number of archaeological artifacts during the current crisis.
