International Conference in Germany to protect Syrian culture and heritage

Damascus, SANA-Director General of Antiquities and Museums Ma’moun Abdul-Kareem said on Thursday that activities of “German Archaeological Institute on Documenting the Syrian Cultural Heritage conference” has issued a recommendation which affirms that Directorate-General of Antiquities and Museums in Syria is the only legitimate, legal side with which the international partners deal, support and provide it with documents relevant to Syrian heritage.

“The conference, held in Berlin between 29th and 31st of July, affirmed that the international efforts are complementary to the national efforts exerted by Directorate- General of Antiquities and Museums in the field of protecting the Syrian antiquities,” Abdul-Kareem told SANA.

He hailed the scientific and IT care showed by the international scientific institutions to support the efforts of Directorate- General of Antiquities and Museums in protecting the historical heritage in Syria and documenting it, particularly the German Archaeological Institute which opened its available data in front of the Directorate.

He added the German Institute has continued its work in Damascus during the years of crisis to support the efforts of the Directorate-General of Antiquities and Museums.
