Electricity cooperation to be boosted between Syria and Iran

Tehran, SANA – Minister of Electricity Imad Khamis on Wednesday discussed with head of the  Committee for Development of Iranian-Syrian Economic Relations Rostam Ghasemi the executive  mechanism of joint cooperation between the two countries, particularly in the field of electricity.

Minister Khamis stressed that the precise follow-up and implementation of the signed  agreements, contracts and projects would actively contribute to overcome difficulties in view  of the universal war launched against Syria by terrorist organizations in service of Israel  and the U.S.-Zionist project in the region.

“There is a mutual interest in boosting bilateral cooperation in the field of electricity in  a way that serves the interests of the two countries,” Khamis said, pointing out the  importance of implementation of the new credit line and taking the optimal benefit from it to fulfill the needs of the Syrian people of basic needs along with funding economic projects and contracts.

Earlier, Minister Khamis discussed with Iranian Minister of Energy Hamid Chitchian means of bolstering cooperation in the energy sector.

The two sides also tackled issues related to funding and accelerating work on the signed agreements related to the electricity sector, building power plants and substations, and training.

Khamis briefed Chitchian and the accompanying delegation on the situation in Syria, saying the regional-backed terrorism is systemically targeting the infrastructure.

He also reviewed the steps taken by the Ministry to provide electricity to all areas in Syria and repair the damaged caused by terrorism to the electric power sector’s facilities and infrastructure.Electricity

“Syria will eventually overcome terrorism thanks to the courage of its leadership and army and support of its people”, Khamis said, expressing gratitude for the Iranian government and people for their support to Syria.

He also noted that Syria is giving priority to the Iranian firms and providing them with all possible facilitations.

For his part, Minister Chitchian said his country will continue supporting Syria in all fields to achieve the interests of the two friendly peoples, and that the Iranian government supports the Iranian companies operating in Syria and will continue to provide whatever they need to help the progress of their work.
