“Our Word” workshop calls for UN action to stop war and lift sanctions on Syria

Damascus, SANA – More than 100 influential figures from various components of the Syrian society tried to make the Syrians’ voice against the conspirators heard through “Our Word” workshop, which wrapped up activities on Saturday.

The participants in the two-day workshop, which tackled the severe repercussions of the internationally-led terrorist war on Syria, now in its fifth year, and the society’s role in facing foreign interference, directed a call at its end for a UN action to stop this war.

They demanded that the UN member states that are supporting the terrorists in Syria and have imposed unilateral coercive economic sanctions on the Syrian people refrain from interfering in Syria’s affairs in abidance by the UN Charter.

Stopping the fierce terrorist war and lifting the sanctions would help in preparing for reaching a political peaceful solution in Syria, the participants said.

Their appeal also included a demand that the Security Council’s resolutions related to prohibiting countries’ dealing with the terrorist organizations and cutting off funding sources of the terrorists be enforced.

They also called for activating the mechanisms of the Charter of the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) with regard to restoring archeological and historical pieces and items stolen by terrorists from Syria, in addition to taking serious measures to protect the Syrian heritage.

Ambassadors of Belarus and Pakistan and representatives of a number of embassies and international organizations operating in Syria attended the final day of the workshop.
