Premier discusses with MPs meeting needs of people displaced from Idleb, meets Damascus countryside figures

Damascus, SANA – Prime Minister Wael al-Halaqi met Saturday with members of the People’s Assembly representing Idleb province to discuss means to meet the needs of the province’s residents who fled their homes following a large-scale assault by terrorist groups, including Jabhat al-Nusra.

The government, the Premier vowed, is keen to provide the urgent humanitarian and relief aid to the people displaced from Idleb in general and most recently from Ariha city, which the terrorists overran on Friday.

The residents of the northern province, located on the border with Turkey, have been forced out of their homes and moved to neighboring provinces, especially Lattakia, fleeing the atrocities which terrorists inflict wherever they enter an area, which was what they exactly did in areas where the inhabitants did not manage to escape.

The assault, which started weeks ago, was directly backed by the Turkish forces that provided logistic support and fire coverage to the terrorists, who flowed into the city in hordes.

The focus during the meeting was on means to secure makeshift accommodation places and aid supplies for the displaced families.

PM: Damascus countryside breadbasket of Damascus province and southern region

One another note, al-Halaqi discussed with social figures and tradesmen from Damascus countryside means of finding markets for vegetables, fruit and other crops in the province.

The Premier also discussed during the meeting ways to invigorate the service, industrial and development sectors and means of delivering food aid to the locals trapped by terrorist groups in some areas in Damascus countryside.

Al-Halaqi hailed Damascus countryside province as a template for national reconciliation, considering it to be “the breadbasket of Damascus province and the southern region.”

The delegation members, for their part, lauded the government’s efforts to enhance the performance of services’ sectors and consolidate the capabilities of the Syrian people against the terrorist war waged against them.
