Russian delegation criticizes US’s double standard policy on terrorism

Damascus, SANA – Member of Russian Federation Council’s Defense and Security Committee Dmitry Sablin criticized on Tuesday the US administration’s policy of double standards on terrorism.

During a meeting with Speaker of the People’s Assembly Mohammad Jihad al-Laham, Sablin also criticized the U.S. misinformation campaigns to confuse the world public opinion about what is taking place in Syria.

He condemned the slaughtering of more than 450 residents of Palmyra city at the hands of the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS), stressing that all those who are complicit in this crime will be held to account in the future.

Alexander Yushchenko of the Russian Duma, who is accompanying Sablin along with other figures, also blamed the US’s policy of interfering in the internal affairs of independent countries that are not under its tutelage for problems in those countries.

Such policy, he said, definitely leads to the example of the events taking place in Syria, where horrible crimes of killing civilians and destroying historical heritage are committed by terrorist organizations.

Speaker al-Laham said rooting out terrorism is a must in order for any political solution to the crisis to succeed.

This, he said, necessitates adopting an international and regional strategy to dry out the sources of terrorism and stop the flow of terrorists into Syria from the Turkish and Jordanian borders.

Al-Laham questioned the efficiency of the Washington-led western alliance against ISIS, expressing doubts that it is the US intelligence service that is supporting this terrorist organization and guiding its moves and providing military cover to it to seize large swathes of territory in Iraq and Syria.

The parliament’s Speaker used the opportunity of the meeting to hail the Russian government’s efforts to bring together the Syrian parts in Moscow to the effect of laying a real foundation for the political solution in Syria.
