Syria sweeps 18 medals in West Asia Jiu-Jitsu Championship

Beirut, SANA- The Syrian national Jiu-Jitsu team harvested 18 various medals, four gold, six sliver and eight bronze in the competitions of the first day of the West Asia Jiu-Jitsu Championship hosted by Lebanon.

The gold medals were swept by players Yusuf al-Mounir in the above 94 kg category, Sanda Da’as in the 49 kg division, Hanadi al-Hamowi in the 55 kg category and Eitab al-Hussein in the above 70 kg division.

Seven teams, including Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, Jordan, Palestine, Kuwait and Iran are participating in male’s championship, while the female championship teams are from Syria, Lebanon and Iraq.

The Jiu-Jitsu is a Japanese martial art and a method of close combat for defeating an armed and armored opponent in which one uses no weapon or only a short weapon.
