Teachers Science Olympiad promoted in its 2nd edition

Damascus, SANA-Education Minister Dr. Hazwan al-Waz on Wednesday called for benefiting from the experience of the Syrian Science Olympiad for teachers as a scientific project highlighting the loopholes in school curricula and the teachers’ capabilities to discover the distinguished students.

The competitions of first teachers Syrian Science Olympiad was held August last year with 344 participants representing teachers of the provinces of Damascus and Lattakia.

During a preparatory meeting about the second Science Olympiad scheduled to be held next August, al-Waz reiterated the aim of this experience which is to come out with a group of qualified innovative teachers capable to keep up with the ongoing progress and the latest developments in the teaching process.

He asserted that the second Olympiad will be larger and wider than the first one as to conclude nine provinces.

He noted that while the competition is not obligatory, it is however open to all secondary education teachers who are willing to participate in the provinces, asserting that the tests will include the subjects of mathematics, physics, chemistry, informatics and natural sciences.

Chairman of the National Commission for the Syrian Science Olympiad Imad al- Azb said, the Olympiad commission in cooperation with the Ministry of Education is working as a team in the project aiming at promoting excellence, innovation and scientific research through qualifying new national talents.
