Syria drawn into Group 5 in 2018 FIFA World Cup and 2019 Asia Cup qualifiers

Kuala Lumpur, SANA – Syria’s national football team was chosen in Group 5 in the draw for the second round of qualifiers for 2018 FIFA World Cup and 2019 Asia Cup that has taken place on Tuesday.

Teams were drawn into eighth groups in the competitions, which are scheduled to start on June 11 and end on March 29, 2016 in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Along with Syria, the teams of Japan, Singapore, Cambodia and Afghanistan were placed in Group 5.

35 out of 40 teams qualified for the second leg of the qualifiers, Syria included.

Teams were divided according to 5 FIFA rankings. Syria was ranked 126th internationally and 15th on the Asian level.

The draw was held in the Malaysian Capital of Kuala Lumpur, the AFC’s main headquarters.
