Hama, SANA- Hama city rehabilitated 15 Norias “waterwheels” in a move to preserve these historical monuments which represent a civilized icon of the city, while 8 others are under rehabilitation, Chairman of Hama City Council Mahmoud al-Qaisi told SANA.
Al-Qaisi added that SYP 14 million were allocated for rehabilitating a number of the Norias which include 1st al-Othmania, 2nd al-Othmania, al- Mamouriya, al-Jisriya and al-Ja’abariya, indicating that 23 Norias are covered by the organizational chart of the city.
For his part, Chairman of Norias Directorate at the Council Mus’aif Maghmouma said that the maintenance teams carry out regular maintenance for the Norias whose wood wears somehow due to being stopped in winter as the Orontes doesn’t flow completely during the season.
last February, Hama City Council finished the restoration works of two Norias and at the end of last year al-Mamouriya Noria was rehabilitated.
