BRICS nations’ media to facilitate construction of fair world order

MOSCOW, SANA- Media outlets of BRICS member states have agreed on facilitating the construction of a fair multipolar world order using their information resources, according to the final declaration of the BRICS Media Summit adopted unanimously on Sunday.

“Participants from BRICS countries will facilitate the construction of a fair and equal multipolar world order based on the norms of international right and principles of equality, respect of sovereignty, non-interference in the internal affairs and indivisible security using their information resources,” the document reads.

Moreover, the document consisting of nine points stressed the role of media outlets in supporting and strengthening an international dialogue. Due to this, participants from BRICS nations reached an agreement to facilitate “comprehensively covering cooperation within BRICS and BRICS+ mechanisms, including political, economic and humanitarian areas, on their resources.” Moreover, media outlets from BRICS members that joined the declaration, confirmed commitment to principles of unbiased journalism based on facts and expressed readiness to coordinate efforts on fight against disinformation.

The seventh BRICS Media Summit is underway in Moscow on September 13-17, with heads and leading specialists of over 60 media outlets from 45 countries participating in it.

The summit is hosted by Russian state news agency TASS, which celebrated its 120th anniversary on September 1. For the first time ever, the Media Summit is held as a new format of the BRICS Media Forum, a non-governmental non-commercial platform for dialogue among leading media of BRICS member states. The BRICS Media Forum was founded in 2015 on Xinhua’s initiative and has since been organized annually by the country that holds the rotating BRICS presidency. Russia assumed the presidency on January 1, 2024. All BRICS events in Russia are organized by the Roscongress Foundation.
