Saudi Arabian Embassy in Damascus celebrates World Humanitarian Day

Damascus, SANA- The Embassy of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in Damascus held a reception on the occasion of World Humanitarian Day at the Sheraton Hotel in Damascus, where the embassy’s Chargé d’Affaires, Abdullah Al-Haris, affirmed that Saudi-Syrian relations are constantly developing and moving towards the best.

In his speech, Al-Haris said that the celebration is a recognition, appreciation and gratitude to those who work in the humanitarian field and who sacrificed their lives to serve humanity and help the needy and refugees in various parts of the world.

He stressed the importance of raising awareness about humanitarian work and making it a culture before it becomes a behavior.

In a statement to SANA, Al-Haris said that “Saudi-Syrian relations are constantly developing and heading towards the better under the patronage of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, His Highness the Crown Prince, and His Excellency President Bashar al-Assad.”

In a similar statement, Director of the Arab Affairs Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Riad Abbas said that celebrating humanitarian work reminds us that humanity is the bridge that connects all our hearts, and doing good is the language that the entire world speaks.

It is noteworthy that the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution in 2008 declaring August 19 as World Humanitarian Day, as an attack on the Canal Hotel in Baghdad, Iraq, resulted in the killing of 22 humanitarian aid workers, including the UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative in Iraq, Sergio Vieira de Mello.
