Manama, SANA- With the participation of Syria, the activities of the Economic and Social Council meeting at the ministerial level began Sunday in the Bahraini capital, Manama, in preparation for the work of the Arab Summit scheduled to be held in Bahrain on the 16th of May.
Head of the Syrian delegation, Minister of Economy and Foreign Trade, Dr. Muhammad Samer Al-Khalil, said in his speech, that the Arab world is subjected to challenges that require to persevere and resolve in a way to advance the economies of the countries and follow development tracks that would alleviate crises for the Arab peoples.
Minister Al-Khalil stressed the importance of linking the axes of joint Arab economic action, adding the need to give importance to the changes witnessed by the Arab region, whether regional and international, economic and non-economic, or as a result of environmental and climate changes, which have negatively affected the supply chains of goods and services, which requires joint research into ways to address any existing or potential risks in terms of Arab food security
Al- Khalil presented the Syrian Arab Republic’s draft for the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States to prepare a study on opportunities for Arab economic integration, especially in the areas of food manufacturing, noting the importance of the proposed mechanism to link banks and social development institutions, as it aims to activate the contribution of member Arab social financing institutions to achieving economic and social empowerment.
He pointed out that Syrian Arab Republic is interested in hosting the trade exhibition for the countries of the Greater Arab Free Trade Area in its first session, and it is proposed to organize it to be a platform for public and private companies to display their products in a way to enhance opportunities for economic integration among Arab countries.
