US police forcibly break up a student sit-in in solidarity with Gaza at George Washington University

Washington, SANA- U.S. police forcibly evacuated a camp held by pro-Palestinian students at George Washington University after arresting dozens of students who have been demonstrating for days against the Israeli aggression on Gaza.

Hundreds of police officers stormed the University Square, arrested dozens of students, used pepper spray against them and dismantled the sit-in tents.

US media reported that Republican members of Congress pressured local authorities to dismantle the camp, and summoned Bowser, a Democrat, and Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela Smith to testify before the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability to discuss their handling of the protest.

Protests have erupted at several universities across the country in recent weeks, with students demonstrating against the war in Gaza and calling on universities to cut direct or indirect financial ties with U.S. arms manufacturers and Israeli occupation entity.
