42 years mark the general strike in Golan…Golan is forever Syrian

The occupied Golan – SANA –The Golan’s people preferred death to accepting the Israeli identity since the issuance of the Israeli occupation’s decision to annex Golan land on December 14, 1981.

Golan people stressed their rejection and adherence to their Syrian identity, and continuing to resist all occupation measures until the entire land returns to the homeland.

Three days after issuing the decision, the UNSC adopted Resolution 497, which confirms the identity of the Syrian Arab Golan, considering the decision, which was met with widespread international rejection, is null and void, and has no legal effect.

The struggle of our people there against the decision culminated in their announcement of a comprehensive strike on February 14, 1982.

Following the strike immediately, the occupation imposed a military siege on the villages and towns of the Golan, preventing the arrival of food supplies and cutting off electricity, in an attempt to cover up what was happening and isolate the people from the outside world. Dozens of citizens there were arrested after massive raids on homes, to put pressure and force them to end the strike.

The people there, whose number did not exceed 13,000 at the time, responded to the siege imposed by 25,000 occupation forces on their land with steadfastness. During the strike period, they wage violent confrontations with the occupation forces, the most important of which was the identity battle on April 1, 1982.

Golan people keep confronting all aggressive, Judaizing Israeli plans, despite the oppression, as they thwarted last June the settlement plan to set wind turbines on their lands.

In a statement to a SANA, they explained that this anniversary comes while the entire region is experiencing unusual circumstances, as a result of the genocidal war waged by the occupation against the Gaza Strip, indicating that its commemoration will be limited to implementing a strike that includes all life facilities in the Golan, and raising the Syrian flag in the villages squares, which were and still are the greatest witness to the foiling of occupation projects.

Syria constantly affirms that the occupied Golan is an integral part of its territory, its complete return to the homeland is inevitably coming, and that it will spare no effort to achieve this return by all means guaranteed by international law.

Syria’s right was confirmed by UNSC Resolutions 242, 338 and 497 that the Golan is Syrian Arab.
