Hundreds dead and missing after devastating floods hit Libya

Tripoli, SANA- Minister of Health in Libya government Othman Abdel Jalil said that Derna city in eastern Libya suffered catastrophic damage as a result to Storm Daniel struck the country the day before yesterday.

He added that that there are hundreds feared dead and missing people due to the floods and torrents.

‘The Ministry needs teams specialized in searching to rescue those trapped under the rubble in Derna city’, Bawabat al-Sharq Website quoted Abdul Jalil as saying, calling on brotherly and friendly countries to help and provide rescue teams.

The minister went on saying that the death toll has risen to 2000 and the total number of the missing is unknown, as search is still continuing among the rubble.

Abdel Jalil noted that there are still large numbers of missing people and the authorities concerned are working, in cooperation with the army to provide the necessary medical services.
