Syria, India to enhance scientific and research cooperation

Damascus, SANA- Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Bassam Ibrahim, discussed with the Chargé d’Affaires of the Indian Embassy in Damascus, Satender Kumar Yadav, ways to enhance cooperation between the two countries in the field of higher education and scientific research.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed means of renewing and developing the scientific and cultural exchange program, as well as scholarships at the undergraduate and postgraduate degrees, and focusing on some remarkable specializations.

Ibrahim stressed that the Syrian-Indian relations are witnessing tangible development at all levels.

“The ministry seeks to enhance relations in the scientific, research, cultural and training domains,” Ibrahim noted.

Ibrahim pointed out to the need to expand scholarships provided by India to include specific disciplines, among them anesthesia technology, operations, radiology, dialysis, and the pharmaceutical industry related to cancer diseases, as well as encouraging scientific visits between Syrian and Indian universities to be acquainted with the scientific and research programs approved in both countries.

In turn, the Indian Charge d’ affairs noted the need to set a way that organizes scholarships and focus on making them qualitative rather than quantitative, and setting the basic priorities for the needs of Syrian universities.
