Vienna, SANA- Syria’s permanent representative to the United Nations and other international organizations in Vienna, Ambassador Hassan Khaddour, affirmed that “Israel’s aggressive behavior in the region, and its nuclear capabilities outside the framework of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, constitute a grave danger to the non-proliferation system and to the stability of the region.
Delivering a speech at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Board of Governors Meeting on Friday Ambassador Khaddour said: “Syria was and will remain committed to full and constructive cooperation with the Agency in accordance with its obligations under the Non-Proliferation Treaty and the Comprehensive Safeguards Agreement signed with the Agency,”.
The Ambassador stressed the need for the international community not to condone the dangerous Israeli practices and its aggressive behavior, and to take a clear decision and serious practical steps in order to compel it to join the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, and to subject all its facilities to the inspection of the (IAEA) without any condition or restriction.
Ambassador Khaddour expressed Syria’s thanks to the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Rafael Grossi, for his condolences to the victims of the devastating earthquake, and to all countries that supported the Syrian government’s efforts in removing the rubble, rescuing the wounded, and sending the necessary humanitarian assistance.
